The Dark Side of Social Media: Child Grooming Rings Exposed

Authorities are on high alert regarding the threat of online child sex grooming.

The recent discovery of multiple social media groups promoting child sexual grooming has sparked widespread concern. These groups, some dating back to 2014 have thousands of members and openly share sexually suggestive content involving children.

One such group, dedicated to primary school children, actively recruits new members and features suggestive comments and images of minors. Some members even solicit personal information from children for video calls.

Authorities including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police have initiated investigations into these activities. The police are gathering intelligence on suspects and urging parents to monitor their children’s online activities closely.

To prevent children from falling victim to online predators, parents are advised to be vigilant and to report any suspicious online behavior to the authorities.
