Saifuddin tells Sanusi, “We’ll meet in court once a new trial date is set.”

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail speaking to reporters after the handing-over of the Immigration detention depot and quarters in Jawi

NIBONG TEBAL: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will attend the trial of the defamation lawsuit filed by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor once the court sets a new date. Saifuddin, jokingly, mentioned that he had requested a postponement, following Sanusi’s example, who had sought delays for his own cases.

“I am just like the Kedah menteri besar. When the trial was scheduled, he requested a postponement in his case, so I am doing the same. I am following his lead,” Saifuddin remarked. “Once a new date is set, we will meet in court,” he added when asked about the lawsuit.

He spoke after attending the handover ceremony for the Immigration detention depot and staff quarters in Jawi. Sanusi, meanwhile, insisted that his legal suit against Saifuddin would proceed, emphasizing that it was necessary to uphold the integrity of the state government and his role as menteri besar.

Sanusi filed the lawsuit after Saifuddin allegedly made defamatory remarks during campaign events in Kedah and Penang. The trial was initially set for November 11 to 13, but Saifuddin requested a delay, citing his busy national responsibilities.

The lawsuit was filed on August 3 by Faizi & Associates at the Alor Star High Court. According to the claim, Sanusi alleged that Saifuddin’s statements were defamatory, involving accusations of theft related to rare earth elements and funds from the Malaysian Road Records Information System.
