
A robbery at a grocery store on Jalan Pokok Machang yesterday has attracted attention after video footage of the incident went viral. The police are investigating the case following a report filed by a woman later that evening. Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed that the woman informed authorities her employee, a Pakistani national was involved in an armed robbery carried out by an unknown suspect.
The robber, wielding a parang, arrived on a motorcycle, though the make and registration number of the bike remain unidentified. CCTV footage from a nearby camera captured the robbery but the suspect’s face was concealed by a dark helmet and face mask. The estimated losses from the robbery amounted to RM2,500, which was the cash collected from the store’s sales for the day.
The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code which pertains to armed robbery. Anuar also urged the public to refrain from sensationalizing the incident, as it could disrupt public order during the ongoing investigation. He encouraged anyone with information to come forward and assist the police.
