
Proton Holdings Bhd reported a 13.6% increase in sales for October with a total of 12,799 units sold in both domestic and export markets. This brings the company’s year-to-date (YTD) sales to 125,557 units as Proton targets its sixth consecutive year of growth. October also saw a rebound in the overall automotive industry after a dip in the previous month with total industry volume (TIV) estimated to reach 70,668 units, maintaining momentum for a potential record-breaking year.
The Proton Saga led the charge with 6,112 units sold in October, bringing its YTD total to 60,178 units. The company is optimistic that the Saga will surpass 70,000 units in sales by the end of the year marking a second consecutive year of strong performance. Meanwhile, other Proton models also performed well. The Proton X50, a B-segment SUV sold 2,122 units in October, solidifying its position as the market leader in its segment for both the month and YTD sales.
The Proton S70, a C-segment sedan, bounced back in October with 1,432 units sold, reclaiming its position as the top seller in its category. With 16,200 units sold YTD, the S70 is expected to see further success especially with the Proton S70 R3 racing in the Sepang 1,000km endurance race in November. CEO Roslan Abdullah emphasized that the final quarter of 2024 will be challenging due to an influx of new brands and aggressive sales offers.
However, Proton remains focused on maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction through its 157 nationwide 3S/4S outlets. Looking ahead, Proton is preparing to enter the electric vehicle market with the Proton e.MAS 7 set for a December launch.
