Malaysia-Thailand Border Project: New Road to Streamline Traffic and Fortify Security

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the construction of a new road linking the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS) to Thailand’s Sadao Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) aims to enhance national security and strengthen Malaysia-Thailand relations.

Malaysia has initiated the construction of a new road connecting the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) with Thailand’s Sadao Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) aiming to bolster national security and deepen ties with Thailand. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shared details of the project which will facilitate the streamlined movement of commercial, heavy and public vehicles across the border while enhancing security.

The new dual-carriageway road, spanning 900 meters with six lanes will also include a 300-meter service road that links the main road to the General Operations Force (PGA) Tactical Headquarters in Bukit Kayu Hitam. Saifuddin, following a site visit, emphasized that this infrastructure is key to improving traffic flow, security measures and connectivity at the Malaysia-Thailand border.

In addition to the new road, the project includes the demolition and rebuilding of 10 structures at the 5th Border Regiment Camp. A new final control post and a covered gateway will also be established, serving as symbols of cooperation between Malaysia and Thailand. These developments are designed to enhance operational facilities for security personnel while prioritizing their welfare and safety.

The minister reaffirmed the Home Ministry’s commitment to upgrading border security aligning with the aspirations of the Malaysia Madani framework which promotes humanitarian values, compassion and well-being. Saifuddin highlighted that this project is not only a security measure but also an investment in the economic and social mobility between the two countries, aimed at fostering a stronger, mutually beneficial relationship with Thailand.
