
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met yesterday with former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who chairs the ASEAN Chairman’s informal advisory group.
Anwar said they discussed key issues, including Myanmar and cryptocurrency developments. Later, he continued the discussion with former Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo.
On Dec 16, Anwar appointed Thaksin as an informal adviser to support Malaysia as ASEAN Chair 2025. Malaysia officially assumed the role on Jan 1, marking its fifth time leading ASEAN since 1967, previously holding the chair in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
