KOTA KINABALU: Police have confirmed that activist and graphic designer Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, better known as Fahmi Reza, is under investigation for alleged sedition.
Fahmi was arrested yesterday afternoon after providing a statement at the Penampang police headquarters. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun confirmed the arrest, stating that the investigation is ongoing. “Yes, it is still under investigation,” he told Bernama.
During a press conference at the Sabah police contingent headquarters, Jauteh revealed that over 30 police reports had been filed against Fahmi in Sabah for alleged sedition. Among the complaints were claims that Fahmi had pasted caricatures featuring the image of Tun Musa Aman, who is set to be appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, in various locations, including Kota Kinabalu. Other actions deemed seditious are also being investigated.
A 40-second video that recently went viral showed Fahmi in Kota Kinabalu pasting one of the caricatures, accompanied by the words, “Solidarity with the people of Sabah who fight corruption, fight bribery.” A review of Fahmi’s Facebook page revealed that he shared the video on December 27 and has posted multiple updates related to the caricature.
