Police tracking man who slapped wife in mall

SEPANG: Police are investigating a man who was caught on a live-streamed video slapping his wife at a shopping mall.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said a report was filed by the woman’s sister, confirming the victim as her 35-year-old sibling. “The man in the video, estimated to be in his 50s, is her husband,” Norhizam said in a statement.

The 29-second video, reportedly recorded at a mall in Kota Warisan, shows the woman leaving the mall as a man, holding a child’s hand, approaches her. He slaps her in public, scolds her, and the woman is later seen leaving the area.

Police are currently recording statements from witnesses and working to locate both the suspect and victim. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. It is also being investigated under Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act, which addresses offences involving domestic violence.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Mahafiz Mat Lawi, at 010-2396533.
