Man United conclude dismal month with 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim looks dejected after the Manchester United v Newcastle United matchm, Old Trafford, Manchester, Britain, December 30, 2024

MANCHESTER, England: The home team, missing their captain Bruno Fernandes due to suspension, struggled to break out of their own half during the first half.

Their best chances before the break came from Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro, but both failed to capitalize. Hojlund, receiving a pass from Martinez, sent the ball across the goal, narrowly missing the far corner. Meanwhile, Casemiro’s shot went wide, leaving him covering his face in frustration.

Amorim and his squad showed improvement after the break. A diving header from Maguire, which was comfortably caught by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, drew cheers from the Old Trafford crowd—who had earlier booed the team off at halftime.

The low point of the match came when striker Joshua Zirkzee was heavily booed by the Old Trafford faithful as Amorim substituted him in the 33rd minute.

By the final whistle, much of the stadium was already empty.
