Kota Setar Records Increase in Flood Evacuees Amid Overall Decline in Kedah

Among the areas that are still submerged in floods around Gunung Keriang

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has dropped slightly overnight to approximately 8,000, but Kota Setar continues to see an increase in displaced residents seeking shelter.

As of 8 a.m. today, the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported 8,051 evacuees remaining in 49 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) across six districts, a decrease from the 8,648 recorded yesterday afternoon.

In Kuala Muda, all 182 evacuees from 54 families have returned home following improved conditions.

Kota Setar: The Hardest-Hit District
Kota Setar remains the worst-affected area, with 3,858 evacuees from 1,158 families currently in 16 PPS, an increase from 3,421 evacuees the previous day.

Impact on Other Districts

  • Kubang Pasu: 2,431 evacuees from 764 families in 14 PPS.
  • Sik: 695 evacuees from 211 families in seven PPS.
  • Pokok Sena: 596 evacuees from 178 families in four PPS.
  • Padang Terap: 442 evacuees from 127 families in seven PPS.
  • Baling: 30 evacuees from 11 families in one PPS.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary aid to those affected while urging residents to remain cautious and follow safety protocols.
