Felcra Bhd has reported a significant increase in its Interim 2 Distributable Profit, rising by nearly RM82 million—a 168% boost compared to the same period last year. This impressive growth reflects the company’s strong commitment to adopting innovative agricultural practices. Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang attributed this success to ongoing efforts that have transformed former swamps and wildlife areas into productive agricultural land.
Felcra Seberang Perak was cited by Rubiah as a prime example of rural transformation, showcasing seed processing facilities and well-developed settlements for farmers. Speaking at the Felcra Visionary Award 2024 ceremony at the World Trade Centre, she noted that Felcra’s achievements highlight how collaboration and determination can make progress a reality.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the Interim 2 Distributable Profit for 2024, totaling RM129.81 million will be distributed in phases to benefit nearly 68,000 participants nationwide. To further boost Felcra’s operations, Rubiah advocated for integrating modern technologies such as drones, IoT and AI to improve crop yields and efficiency.
She emphasized the importance of skill development, citing a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation report that suggests agricultural productivity can rise by up to 20% with improved skills. Rubiah also underscored the role of women in agriculture, emphasizing that empowering women can drive productivity and foster social change within rural communities.
Felcra Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub outlined plans to broaden the company’s strategic role by merging commercial and social goals. These initiatives include developing agropreneurs among Felcra participants and promoting rural and eco-tourism.
