2025 Budget: Malaysia Boosts Halal Industry with New Initiatives and Funding

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz says that the 2025 Budget provides strong support for the Halal industry.

The 2025 Budget strongly supports the Halal industry, according to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. He highlighted that the budget includes the addition of 100 new halal auditor positions under the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and various allocations aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Malaysia’s Halal products and services.

Additionally, Zafrul noted a significant focus on financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the halal sector, with RM1 billion allocated to Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Berhad (SJPP) to assist these SMEs involved in the halal industry.

“I am confident that all these policy measures will elevate the standards of excellence, efficiency, and productivity within the Halal industry, for them to diversify and gain a competitive edge in the international arena.

“A stronger halal industry and export sector will also support local SMEs, creating more job opportunities for the locals,” Zafrul said in his speech during the World Halal Excellence Awards 2023 here.

The event also welcomed Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as the state government collaborated with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry and the Halal Development Corporation to co-host the gathering.

Zafrul emphasized that although Malaysia holds a strong position in the Halal industry, complacency is not an option. He acknowledged that developing a sustainable and resilient Halal industry is a challenging process. Furthermore, he noted that Malaysia is strategically positioned to fulfill the global demand for Halal products and services, thereby reinforcing its leadership in the international Halal market.

“To build a sustainable and resilient Halal industry is not easy, which is why we are tracking closely the KPIs set out in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP) and Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP),” he said.
